Dear friends,
Last year, Plum Village Hong Kong organized its first family and youth mindfulness camp in Hong Kong from July 16-18, 2010. Activities held in this mindfulness camp are similar to the ones offered in Plum Village France every summer. It was really a retreat for young people and family, where open communication among the young ones were nourished, and loving cares of their loved ones were expressed, in a joyful way. Everyone had a lot of fun, and along the way, transformation were made. One mother said that it usually took her about two hours to feed her son, who rarely eats. At the retreat, however, he ate heartily without help in only twenty minutes. The parents also had a lot of fun playing traditional games with their children, and the children enjoyed these games too.
We are happy to announce that the second family and youth mindfulness camp in Hong Kong, will be held from July 29 to July 31, 2011. Families with children, young people and individuals are welcome to attend the retreat. The retreat will be set in a camp setting, where parents, young people and children have separate activities as well as joint activities. There will be separate programs for each age group: Children program: 6 to 12 years old, teen program: 13 – 16 years old, young adult: 17 – 22 years old, and adults: 22 years old and up. The retreat is organized by Plum Village Hong Kong and is conducted by the Plum Village monastics of the Asian Institute of Applied Buddhism.
In this mindfulness camp, we will practice mindful breathing, mindful walking, and pleasant smiling. We will practice deep listening and loving speech to bring out the peace and joy within ourselves, to offer our presence to our loved ones, our children and parents. Young people do have the needs to talk, to confide to their parents and older siblings, and to get support and guidance from them.
