Walking meditation at Kadoorie, October 2007 retreat

February 1, 2008

Dear friends,

We are happy to invite you to join us for the regular quarterly weekend retreat organized by Plum Village Hong Kong. Our practice program consists of bi-weekly Friday evening sessions, monthly Days of Mindfulness, and quarterly weekend retreats.  Two brothers and two sisters from Plum Village are invited to lead the retreat this time.

In this retreat, we will have chance to deepen our practice in a tranquil environment. We will be surrounded by beautiful and serene nature and have the accompanies of many fellow practitioners like ourselves, who have made big efforts to slow down our busy life for two days in order to look at the state of our happiness. We will practice mindful breathing, sitting, walking, eating, talking … in the here and now. We will really take time to do our daily activities without hurry and with joy, being aware of what is happening inside and around us, being aware that we are alive.

In our life, we would like to bring peace and joy to our loved ones and to every one. Yet at times, we do not feel comfortable being near our loved ones, even feel resentment against them? What’s to do when we are near those whom we are angry at?  How to extinguish the flames of anger? We will have a chance to look deeply at the “persons whom we are angry with”. We will see that by opening our heart, our anger can be transformed into peace and joy. We will refer to the “Discourse on the Five Ways of Putting an End to Anger” (Madhyama Agama 25 - corresponds with Anguttara Nikaya III, 186)in the Plum Village Chanting book for these topics.
